TONY IOMMI: It Would Be Nice To Do One Final BLACK SABBATH Tour
October 24, 2007Paul Taylor of the Manchester Evening News recently conducted an interview with BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN AND HELL guitarist Tony Iommi.
Asked if he's ready to serve yet another decade as riffmeister supreme, Iommi replied, "I was asked that question 40 years ago and I probably gave the same answer: I don't know. I enjoy playing. I like to be on stage, but the getting there is another thing. I hate the travelling. When you're 20 it's fantastic."
On touring as HEAVEN AND HELL:
"If we'd gone out as BLACK SABBATH, I think people would have expected us to do 'Iron Man', 'Paranoid', all that stuff. I thought it would be different to go out under another name and play the stuff we'd done with Ronnie [James Dio]."
On the chances of there being another Ozzy-fronted tour in the not-too-distant future:
"Everything's a possibility. I talk to Ozzy a lot — once a week. He always stays in touch. I know there's a lot of talk out there about an album, and also a tour. It would be nice — a final tour of BLACK SABBATH."
On slicing the ends off the middle and ring fingers of his right hand when he was an 18-year-old working in a sheet metal factory:
"I was told I couldn't play any more. The doctors told me to pack up, but I wouldn't accept that.
"It's still very sore. If a tip comes off while I'm playing, as happened once, I just slice right through, because the bone's right under the skin."
